Yes, I understand that AppleCare is by serial number of the item and that we are covered. But how can I retroactively associate the AppleCare registration with an Apple ID of my choosing, or rather, how can I find out to whom the AppleCare is registered? I can see that these pre-registered machines are covered. I want these pre-registered AppleCare registrations to appear under my Apple ID for all of my other registrations that didn't come pre-registered (which I needed to register by typing in the AppleCare registration number myself), so that both manually and automatically registered machines appear is one single unified list.Īt the end of the day, everything that we need covered is covered. The whole extended warranty thing used to be something of a money tool for the companies offering it, but with newer computers where if something small goes wrong you basically have to replace the whole thing (that goes double for notebooks) I'd say you do want some kind of extended warranty. You have to balance up risk aversion and need for technical support (which we kind of have in-house already 😉 ).

Mind you, not that I am a huge fan of Applecare myself and we did not buy it for our last iPhone. I don't know if you can call Costco 1 year from now and ask them how you rip a CD in iTunes and expect to get reliable help (such places often tend to be stronger on the Windows side of things).

The other thing about Applecare is it provides extra service support beyond the basic warranty. You may want to find out how it works so you don't end up with surprises should you need it. I don't know that Costco can do service itself, or if it is covering to have you take it to Apple and then they refund you for Apple's service, or what.

You should ask Costco about the details of how the coverage works. Does Costco even sell MacBook Pros? I don't see them on their web site.
